Description
Have you ever wanted to knit a sock that fits perfectly — your foot, your yarn, your style? Or perhaps you're an experienced sock knitter ready to dive into the wonderful rabbit hole of heels and toes?
This full-day workshop with the brilliant Kate Atherley is your passport to sock-knitting freedom.
Morning: Custom Socks We'll spend the morning liberating you from the pattern book! Kate will show you how to create your own custom sock pattern from scratch — top-down or toe-up, in your yarn of choice, sized perfectly for your feet. You'll learn how to customise fit for specific size requirements, and how to make the design truly your own with pattern stitches and colourwork.
Afternoon: Heels and Toes After lunch, we'll go deep into the wonderfully varied world of heel and toe constructions, with a focus on how different methods affect fit. Kate will walk you through common and not-so-common techniques for both top-down and toe-up socks, and show you how to substitute them into an existing pattern — or use them as the foundation for your own designs.
The Day Arrive at 10am and settle in for a day of socks, solutions and plenty of those satisfying click-into-place moments. We'll provide a light lunch, plus tea, coffee and cake throughout the day — because every good workshop runs on cake.
Who is this for? The morning session is perfect for knitters who are ready to move beyond the pattern book and start making socks that are truly their own. The afternoon is aimed at more experienced sock knitters looking to deepen their knowledge of construction and fit. Together, they make a brilliant full day for anyone who loves a good sock.
Your Tutor Kate Atherley is a best-selling author of ten knitting books, Knitty.com's Managing Technical Editor, and one of the knitting world's most beloved teachers. She's known for making the technical side of knitting genuinely accessible — and even fun.
