Inside you'll find 18 interlocking EVA foam tiles that slot together like puzzle pieces, so you can build exactly the blocking surface your project needs — a square for sweater pieces, a long rectangle for a scarf, or a triangle for shawls. Each tile is topped with a very low, lightly barbed pile that gently grips your knitting without pilling it or shedding fibres, and lifts the fabric just enough for air to circulate underneath. Because the foam doesn't absorb water like towels do, blocked pieces dry noticeably faster — and the pile self-heals, shrugging off pin holes no matter how enthusiastically you block.

The thick EVA backing is fully waterproof, so you can set the tiles up on the dining table, the spare bed or the carpet without moisture seeping through — and it holds T-pins firmly in place. The tiles are heat-resistant too, so wet, spray and steam blocking are all fair game. This was actually the very first tool Julie Weisenberger designed for Cocoknits, back in 2007 — she wanted a blocking kit that was endlessly versatile in use and compact in storage, and chose EVA foam as the most eco-friendly material for the job (non-PVC, BPA-free, formaldehyde-free and formamide-free).
